The Ministry of Health is making preparations to ensure that people across the country have access to the health services by 2030.
The commitment was made by Minister of Health Bonkong Sihavong at the Annual Health Meeting of 2016 in Vientiane on Feb 27.
Mr Bonkong Sihavong highlighted the achievements of the health service sector over the past year, which has expanded nationwide access to health services such as clean water systems, latrines, food safety and medicine to ensure that the mortality rate in the country is reduced.
The Ministry of Health has attached more importance to improving health services and promoting health service systems to ensure that people receive good services.
Health workforce policy efforts have focused on increasing the number of health care providers, building capacity and the distribution of its workers, particularly midwives.
Mr Bonkong Sihavong has urged authorities, organisations and development partners to continue to support and promote health services in the country.
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic has made significant progress in improving the health of women and children and is on track to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 (reducing child mortality) and 5a (reducing maternal mortality), according to a report by the World Health Organisation.
