Bokeo Vice Governor urges people to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19

Vice Governor of Bokeo Province Khamphaya Phompanya has called on people in the province to receive all required doses of Covid-19 vaccine to ensure herd immunity.

So far Bokeo has received 164,800 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. More than 82,700 people, representing 20.6% of population in the province, have been vaccinated with first dose. Meanwhile over 70,400 (16.05 %) have received second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

“Vaccination is crucial for the containment and prevention measures against the pandemic. I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to the government and its development partners, including those who have donated vaccines directly to the Government of the Lao PDR and also through COVAX Facility. I would also like to thank UNICEF, WHO and other development partners for their support towards the COVID-19 response in Bokeo Province,” noted Mr Khamphaya Phompanya.

Bokeo is expected to begin administering 26,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine on Aug 10, according to Director of the Bokeo Provincial Department of Health Bounyaveth Vongkhamsao.

The planned vaccination will prioritise people aged 60 years and above and those with underlying health conditions.

“I am very happy and grateful to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pandemic,” said a 72-years-old woman Bouathong Lattana, a resident of Huaxay district, Bokeo Province.
