DMW: 13 Filipino seafarers safe after Houthi missile attack in Yemen

MANILA: All 13 Filipino crew members and one Ukrainian seafarer onboard a vessel hit by a missile attack by Houthi rebels in Yemen are safe, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported on Wednesday.

In an advisory, the agency said it was informed by the shipping company’s local manning agency (LMA) that the vessel, a bulk carrier, was attacked by Houthi rebels as the ship was traversing the Yemeni coast near Hodeidah late Tuesday afternoon (local time).

The ship sustained some damage from four missiles launched by the rebels.

‘The DMW is communicating with the shipping and manning agencies, monitoring the safety and condition of our Filipino seafarers. The DMW is also contacting the crew members’ families to provide any assistance they may need,’ it said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) have also been informed by the manning agency of the incident.

The vessel is continuing its voyage to its next port of call, the DMW added.
