Lao Fashion Week’s Lao Young Designers Project launched on Feb 9 the Fashion Design Contest 2017, under the theme “Festival of Light”, seeking to find the best young Lao designer.
The project aims to provide young talented Lao designers with the opportunity to pursue their dream of working in fashion design. Young people between the ages of 18 and 25 are encouraged to submit applications along with five to ten examples of fashion design drawings.
The winner will be awarded a scholarship for a six-month design course at ESMOD International School of Fashion and Business in Paris, France.
The Young Designers Project was established in 2014 by Ms Pany Saignavongs of the Executive Board of the Lao Fashion Week and Society Corporation in association with the Vice President of the Lao Journalists Association, Somsanouk Mixay, and the French Embassy to Laos led by its ambassador, Mrs. Claudine Ledoux.
The project aims to promote gifted Lao youth with creative fashion design ideas and to provide them a platform to demonstrate their work as well as opportunities for them to pursue their dreams in the fashion industry.
Last year’s 2016 edition of Lao Fashion Week’s Lao Young Designers Project was launched under the theme “Pi Mai Lao” or Lao New Year Festival seeking the best young Lao designer of a conceptualized masterpiece for Pi Mai Lao fever. The winner of the 2016 contest was Mr Viseth Sitthilath.
“The top five contestants of the Lao Young Designers project this year, funded by the Lao Young Designers Project to produce their collection, will have their work on display at Lao Fashion Week 2017 as a main stage fashion show. It will take place in Vientiane Capital from Sep 11-15,” said Ms Pany Saignavongs of the Executive Board of Lao Fashion Week.
