Dhaka, Aug 5 (UNB) – Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali reached Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday evening leading Bangladesh delegation to participate in the 22nd Asean Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
He was received by the officials of the Malaysia Foreign Ministry and Bangladesh Ambassador in Malaysia at the airport, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Wednesday.
Malaysia is the current Chair of the ARF, the 27-member lone multilateral security consultative mechanism in the Asia-Pacific region, which has been working for confidence building measures with ultimate aim of reaching a position of conflict resolution through preventive diplomacy.
The Foreign Minister is expected to make a number of courtesy calls on his counterparts from India, Malaysia, Lao PDR, Norway, China and Japan and discuss various bilateral issues.
He will also have a meeting with the Malaysian Home Minister and discuss the position of recruitment of Bangladeshi workers and implementation of the visa waiver agreement for the diplomatic and official passport holders signed earlier among other issues.
Mahmood Ali will be joining at the retreat and plenary session of the ARF on Thursday and make his statement on the regional and international security issues reflecting Bangladesh’s perspectives.
The 22nd ARF on Thursday will see the adoption of several work plans and initiatives to guide the ARF process for the Inter-Sessional Year 2015/2016, said Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.br br
The Foreign Minister is expected to return to Dhaka on Friday.
