The government’s monthly meeting for August 2021 was held between Aug 23-24 witnessing approval of several key documents including a draft master plan on Start-up promotion and development in the transition to digital economy and a draft plan on processing industry and handicraft development for 2021-2025 period.
Chaired by Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh, the meeting saw the participation of all cabinet members.
The government approved a report on the implementation of the Laos-China Railway Construction Project and preparations for its inauguration and post-opening operation.
The Lao and Chinese governments have scheduled the opening of the railway for December 2, 2021. The railway stretches 417 km from the Laos-China border in Luang Namtha to Vientiane.
The cabinet members also approved draft amendments to laws, and new laws to be submitted to the 2nd ordinary session of the National Assembly’s 9th legislature to be held in October.
These documents included draft amendments to Law on Government, Law on State Budget and Law on Telecommunications, Law on High Technology and Law on Casino Management.
Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office and Government Spokeswoman Thipphakone Chanthavongsa said that in the coming September the government will focus on strengthening public security and national defense to ensure political stability and order in the society with more realistic measures, and the implementation of the National Agenda on Addressing Narcotic Drug Issues.
The government will also focus attention on macroeconomic management, exchange rate gap management, increasing of revenue collection through using modern technology, and the implementation of budget reduction measures and agricultural production promotion, as well as the preparation for the opening of new academic year 2021-2022.
Government’s efforts will be also put into the supervision, monitoring and promotion of the implementation of anti-Covid-19 measures, the increasing of quarantine centres and Covid-19 treatment centres to deal with the influx of returning workers from neighbouring countries, and Covid-19 vaccination, according to the Government Spokeswoman.
