Japan Ranks Eighth in Foreign Investment in Laos

(Japan ranks as the eighth largest foreign investor in the Lao PDR, with total investment of more than US$438 million.

The information was disclosed during an official visit to Japan by Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone from Mar 5-10, according to the Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

There are 89 projects worth over US$438 million invested in by Japanese companies in Laos.

Japan is the largest Official Development Assistance ODA provider for the Lao PDR.

In 2016, Japan provided around US$122 million to support five socio-economic development projects in the Lao PDR.

While meeting with host officials, Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Laos to the people and government of Japan for their generous support to Laos over the past years and especially for the ASEAN Chairmanship of the Lao PDR in 2016.
