Four students of Kiettisack International School KIS have won 1st place at the 11th Regional Congress Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists, SEAMEO RECSAM held between Feb 26 and Mar 2 in Penang, Malaysia.
KIS has sent 4 students: Mr. Nathavoth Thongudomsakoun and Mr. Farman Dedvalab for the Science Category by the theme of Extraction of Calcium and Iron Ion for Purification of Water Using Carbon from Coconut Shell and Bamboo Waste, Mr. William Jamie Sneha Breen and Mr. Vongsavanh Sidaxay for the Math Category under the theme of Creating a Statistical Predictor and Revenue-to-Cost Model for Increased Silk Production in the Industry Using the Hybrid Bombyx Mori.
This competition was comprised of 49 teams with 31 participating in the science category and 18 teams taking part in the math category. All ASEAN member countries were represented at the event.
The competition is held every two years by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM). It is attended by the ASEAN member countries namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.
The main purpose of this event is to improve science and mathematics in the ASEAN region.
SEAMEO RECSAM currently captures the attention of educators from other parts of the world.
This reflects the quality of educational innovations that the center undertakes.
SEAMEO RECSAM has been influential in pushing for science and mathematics education motivated by values, stimulated by change and inspired by development in the region. Its framework for education has been a catalyst for reforms in this region and will undertake in the time to come.
