Laos receives 30,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik Light from Russia

Laos has received 30,000 doses of Sputnik Light vaccine, a single-dose Covid-19 vaccine, as a gift from the Government of the Russian Federation.

The handover took place at Wattay International Airport, Vientiane on Sep 22.

Giving remarks at the handover ceremony, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Chanthanome Manithip highly valued the assistance by the Russian government noting that it contributed to anti-Covid-19 efforts in the Lao PDR and assured that the vaccine will be used optimally and promptly.

“Today assistance represents the sound and longstanding relations and cooperation between Laos and Russia,” said the permanent secretary.

Laos has an ambitious plan to have 50 per cent of population of 7.16 million fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

As of Sep 20, 202, some 4.73 million people nationwide have been given Covid-19 vaccine with over 2.81 million given first doses and 1.91 million given second doses.
