Some 217 new Covid-19 cases were reported nationwide on Sunday, bringing the total to 17,357 including 4,228 active cases and 16 deaths, according to Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh.

Dr Rattanaxay told a press conference on the same day that of the new confirmed cases, 121 were classified as imported cases and 96 as local transmissions.

The imported cases included 49 in Saravan, 46 in Savannakhet, 12 in Vientiane, 9 in Khammuan, four in Champassak and one in Luang Prabang. The local infections were reported in Champassak 57, Khammuan 24, Savannakhet 5, Saravan 4, Luang Prabang and Bokeo 2 each and Luang Namtha and Vientiane 1 each.
