There is a very small gap between the size of the population of females and males as there are 3.237 million women and 3.254 million men, yet most jobs are given to males, a report shows.
The ratio of males with access to employment is 69 per cent versus 66 per cent for women.
The recently published 4th Population and Housing Census 2015 suggests that while the country’s workforce was represented almost equally by men and women, there were some industries that were highly selective for gender.
The three most male-dominated industries were transportation, electricity, gas and air-conditioning supply, and public administration and defense.
Traditionally female-dominated sectors were those in accommodation and food services, wholesale and retail trade, human health and social work.
The survey sets the unemployment rate for women in Vientiane Capital at 3.4% among the 69% of women who declared themselves as workers.
