Online learning faces difficulties amid Covid-19

Online teaching and learning has posted some problems for both teachers and students as well as parents including budget constraints and lack of access to ICTs, and online learning facilities as well as reliable Internet connection.

Currently, the Vientiane Education and Sports Office is collecting the data of schools offering online teaching and learning through communication apps (Zoom) and those providing onsite teaching and learning.

Around 60-70 % of schools in the capital city have been surveyed, according to Mr Somphone Sonedara, Deputy Director of Vientiane Education and Sports Department.

“Some teachers don’t even realize that some of their students are struggling with poor internet connection. Online learning is new, and it is difficult for students, teachers and parents to adapt to it in a short period of time and this is more problematic for primary school students,” said Mr Somphone Sonedara.

“Online teaching cannot deliver as good schooling results as onsite teaching technique and this is partly attributed to the fact that some public and private schools and even parents are not ready for online teaching and learning,” said Mr. Somphone Sondara.
