Party Secretary General and President Bounnhang Vorachit along with other Party and government senior officials took part in a tree planting event held at the Kaysone Phomvihane National Defense Academy on Jun 1 marking National Abour Day and International Children’s Day. More than 1,000 trees were planted on the occasion.
In a separate ceremony, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, his deputy Sonexay Siphandone and cabinet members planted trees at the Prime Minister’s Office. Primary school students also joined the event.
School students were allowed to tour the Prime Minister’s Office and meet with the Prime Minister and other members of the government.
On Wednesday, the President of the National Assembly along with senior officials, teachers and students took part in a tree-planting event held at the National University of Laos (Dongdok campus).
The resolution of the 10th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party,which was held in 2016,was to set a target of having 37,000 ha planted with trees by 2020, another effort to increase national forest overage to 70 percent by the year 2030.
