Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his delegation, on Feb 14 visited the ongoing construction of the Nam Ngiep 1 Hydropower Project in Bolikhan district, Bolikhamxay Province to inspect the progress of the construction.
Speaking at the reception, Director of the Nam Ngiep Power Company 1 (NNP1) Mr. Yoshihiro Yamabayashi warmly welcomed the Prime Minister and his delegation and briefed them on the progress the construction project.
Nam Ngiep 1 is a 290-megawatt hydropower project under construction, which covers the provinces of Bolikhamxay and Xaysomboun. Two dams with two powerhouses are being built on the Ngiep River in Bolikhamxay Province.
Construction started in late 2014 and the progress of construction was about 60% complete by the end of 2016. The project is expected to be about 90% complete by the end of this year.
The Lao Government will receive more than US$600 million from direct revenue during the 27-year concession.
The relocation of 500 families affected by the construction from Hatsaykham village was completed in November 2016 and more than 60 families in Hom district will also be relocated to the resettlement area. This relocation is expected to be completed later this year.
