President Receives Chinese Ambassador’s Credentials

(KPL) President Bounnhang Vorachit on Nov 1 received the credentials of newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Jiang Zaidong.

Before being appointed as an ambassador to the Lao PDR, Mr Jiang Zaidong served as Deputy Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

Laos and China established diplomatic ties on April 25, 1961.

At the amicable talks, President Bounnhang highly valued Mr Jiang Zaidong’s diplomatic appointmentand expressed his hope that the Chinese ambassador would contribute to enhancing the diplomatic relations and cooperation in all areas between Laos and China.

China ranks the first largest investor in the Lao PDR and the second largest trade partner of the country following Thailand.

In the first six months of 2018, the bilateral trade between Laos and China reached US$1.7 billion. Meanwhile the investment (FDI) by Chinese companies reached US$790 million.

Last year witnessed more than 760,000 Chinese people visiting Laos.

In the first quarter of 2018, more than 220,000 Chinese visit arrivals were recorded in the Lao PDR. The figure represents a rise of 32% year on year.
