Director Bungon Ritthiphakdee of the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA) has lauded the vigorous support of the local media in Iloilo City to the successful anti-smoking drive of the southern city and exhorts other countries in the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) to do the same and utilize media cooperation in the campaign against smoking.
Speaking at the opening program of the 3rd Smoke-free Cities ASEAN Regional Workshop and the Summit of Smoke-free Leaders and Champions in the ASEAN Region in this city on Wednesday, Ritthiphakdee acknowledged the media role in the effective campaign against smoking as well as commitment of political leaders for a smoke-free environment.
The SEATCA chief also acknowledged the efforts of Iloilo City and Balanga City, Bataan local governments as very active in the anti-smoking campaign.
The anti-smoking summit here is participated by some 300 advocates, leaders and champions on anti-smoking drive in the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. (PNA)RMA/LCPendon/vlo/eds
