The fourth edition of Toyota Mekong Club Championship has been scheduled to take place from Dec 9, 2017 to Jan 6, 2018.
This year witnesses four teams listed for the tournament including Lao Premier League 2017 champion Lao Toyota FC, and champions of national leagues from Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, Chief Executive Officer, Toyota Motor Asia-Pacific, Mr. Hao Quoc Tien told a press conference in Thailand on Nov 13.
The first round of the competition will take place on Dec 9 and 13 where Vietnam will play home and away matches against Cambodia.
The semi-final round will take place on Dec 17 where Lao Toyota will take on the winner of the first round at KM16 Sport Complex in Vientiane Capital.
The two-legged final competition will be held on Dec 23 and Jan 6 allowing which ever teams reach that far to play against defending champion Thailand’s League Cup title holder, Buriram United.
Last year, Buriram United beat Lao Toyota (Lanexang United) 2-0 and 2-1 thus claiming the Toyota Mekong Club Championship on aggregate.
The winner team will be awarded US$75,000, first runner-up to be presented US$50,000 and the second runner-up to be rewarded US$30,000.
The best player is also entitled to a US$3,000 prize.
The Mekong Club Championship, which was firstly launched in 2014, is a football competition for Southeast Asia’s Mekong region clubs. Five teams enter as respective domestic league winners from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar Thailand and Vietnam.
