The Department for Cultural Action and Cooperation of the French Embassy and the Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC) celebrated on Jul 2 at the French Institute in Vientiane the coming departure for France of two Lao students from the bilingual classes of Vientiane and Luang Prabang: Thipphaphone Oudomvilay and Alounny Thammavongsavanh.
These two laureates were selected as part of a scholarship programme Bourses d’avenir, jointly implemented by the French Embassy in Laos and NTPC since 2015.
In September, they will start a two-year degree at the University Institutes of Technology (IUT) in Grenoble in the field of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and Production Automation.
Bourses d’avenir allows francophone students in Laos to access high quality studies in the technical field and upon their return the best among them will have the opportunity to work for NTPC according to the needs.
Six former scholars graduated from France are now working at NTPC.
To ensure the success of the programme and the full integration of the students, a special attention has been given to the selection of the candidates and to the preparation before their departure. They will benefit from:
– A pre-departure training delivered by the French Institute in Laos (Welcome to France module)
– A 6-week training at CAVILAM Vichy to strengthen French language skills before the beginning of their studies
– A personalized coaching by Campus France and NTPC through a mentoring system with francophone engineers
– Internships during their studies by the French energy company EDF, main shareholder of NTPC
Bourses d’avenir programme is the result of a fruitful partnership between France and Laos which contributes to the development and strengthening of Lao human resources.
