World Eyes Are On China’s 70th Anniversary Celebration

Millions of eyes in China and around the world were on the grand celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China which was held in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on Tuesday, Oct 1, 2019.

The celebration began with a 56-gun salute which represented 56 ethnic groups in China, a symbol of unity before a mass parade involving around 100,000 participants was staged. Tanks, drones, aircrafts, and missiles were all featured in the parade.

The parade display colorfully told China’s story from the birth of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago to present, emphasizing the country’s growth from the past pauperization to the world’s second-largest economy.

Strengthening the rule of law, ethnic unity, and crackdown on corruption were highlighted as domestic achievements alongside economic development, rural revitalization and poverty eradication.

China has never said it will try to be the world’s most powerful leader but focused its efforts on improving Chinese people’s living conditions, emphasizing economic growth, opening up to the outside world and sharing the future to other countries through a cooperative framework, assistances, Belt and Road Initiative, among others.

“We remembered revolutionary forefathers and martyrs for their feats in pursuing national independence and liberation, a stronger and more prosperous country and the people’s well-being; extended warm National Day congratulations to Chinese people of all ethnic groups and all compatriots at home and abroad and expressed heartfelt gratitude to friends around the world for their caring for and support to China’s development,” Chinese President Xi Jinping told the grand opening ceremony of the rally.

He noted that the founding of the People’s Republic of China completely changed China’s miserable fate of being poor and weak and being bullied and humiliated in over 100 years since the advent of modern times.

He appreciated Chinese people of all ethnic groups for their great achievements that amaze the world, over the past seven decades through concerted efforts and arduous struggle.

Xi underlined the importance of ensuring the principal status of the people, staying on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and fully implementing the Party’s basic theory, line and policy.

He called for efforts to constantly meet people’s aspirations for a better life and make new historic achievements.

“On our journey forward, we must uphold the principles of ‘peaceful reunification’ and ‘one country, two systems,’ maintain lasting prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao, promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, unite all Chinese sons and daughters, and continue to strive for the motherland’s complete reunification,” Xi said.

He said China will continue to work with people from all countries to push for jointly building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Deputy Head of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, Mr Ning Jizhe disclosed that the founding of the People’s Republic of China on 1st October 1949 is major event in the history of the Chinese nation and human development.

Over the past 70 years, the Communist Party of China has united and led the people of all ethnic groups throughout the country to rise up to difficulties to forge ahead, strive to move forward with perseverance, achieving tremendous socio-economic development.

Particularly, since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, under the firm leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core, historical changes have been made for the cause of the party and the country, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era.

Tremendous changes of 70 years are mainly reflected in the different aspects. China has achieved a leap forward in a journey from standing up to growing rich and becoming strong as China’s GDP has leaped from 67.91 billion yuan in 1952 to 90.03 trillion yuan in 2018, an increase of 174 times in real terms, accounting for nearly 16% of the world economy; Per Capita GDP has improved from 119 yuan to 64,600 yuan.

Among over 500 kinds of major industrial products announced by the United Nations, China sees its output of more than 220 kinds rank first globally. The mileage of railways in service reached 132,000 km, the mileage of high-speed railways reached 30,000 km ranking the second and first in the world respectively. Nearly 80 million new jobs in cities and towns were created and over 80 million of population living in rural areas have been alleviated from poverty.

China’s official data has suggested that within just four decades, China has lifted around 750 million people above the poverty line. Since 2003, the country has signed 17 free trade agreements with 25 countries and regions and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has gained supports from over 160 countries around the world.

China’s Huawei technology including 5G, smartphones, and other digital devices have been advanced very modernly and influenced people around the world, and China is also preparing to host Olympic Games 2022.

On Sep 25, 2019, just few days before the celebration of China’s 70th founding anniversary, an official opening ceremony was held for the world’s biggest airdrome Daxing International Airport in the presence of President Xi Jinping. More than 300 Chinese and foreign journalists paid a visit to observe the 50-billion -dollar airport in Guangyang district, Beijing, China.

Travelers can take the express train from Daxing International Airport with some 20 minutes to reach the heart of Beijing.

It is expected that this airport will be able to handle about 300 take-offs and landings an hour, with 45 million passengers by 2021 and also overtake the US as the world’s largest aviation market by 2022.
