Xaysana Denies all Charges, Thai Media Says

Accused drug lord Xaysana Keopimpha on Monday denied all charges in relation to the case in which he and accomplices allegedly smuggled 1.2 million methamphetamine, or ya ba, pills into Thailand in last September.

He was speaking before the Criminal Court in Bangkok, Thailand, where the pre-trial examination of the case’s evidence was held, according to the Thai English daily Bangkok Post.

According to the indictment filed on April 12, Mr Xaysana and six other alleged accomplices operated as a network to smuggle 1.2 million ya ba pills into Thailand from Laos through the Nong Khai border checkpoint on Sept 30, 2016.

It is alleged that the gang was going to hand over the drugs to members of Mr Xaysana’s network in the south of Thailand who were then going to smuggle the drugs onward into Malaysia.

Police arrested some members of the network with the drugs on Oct 1, 2016. After an extended investigation, Mr Xaysana was arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport on arrival from Phuket on Jan 19 this year.
