Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners acquires Envo Biogas project in Tønder, Denmark

The acquisition is the first investment in Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) Advanced Bioenergy Fund (CI ABF I) and CIP’s first investment in renewable natural gas (RNG). Envo Biogas Tønder will – once completed – become one of Europe’s largest biogas plants.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Feb. 22, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has – through its CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (CI ABF I) – acquired the biogas project Envo Biogas in Tønder, Denmark from Anaergia, a company based in Canada that develops large-scale facilities that convert organic waste to renewable fuels and electricity. The transaction marks the first investment of CI ABF I and is a major milestone for the fund, which aims to develop and construct projects across Europe and North America that produce green gas and green fuels from organic waste, contributing to the decarbonization of the hard-to-abate sectors as well as the security of gas supply. The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.

Anaergia acquired the development project in 2021, finalized the development and achieved first gas on the plant on 15 November 2022. Once the full capacity of the plant has been commissioned – expected by 2025 – it will be one of the largest biogas plants in Europe, converting approximately 900.000 tons of green sustainable feedstock – agricultural and industrial organic waste – into approximately 40m. Nm3 of renewable natural gas. The gas is injected into the existing natural gas grid, thus displacing fossil gas. Additionally, the plant will produce biogenic CO2 that will be used at European Energy’s power-to-X facility under construction at the nearby Kassø facility, thereby contributing to the production of green fuel (e-methanol) for shipping. After harvesting the green energy the remaining organic material will be recirculated as nutrients (fertilizer) for agriculture production in the region.

Thomas Dalsgaard, Partner in CIP says: “We are very pleased to have made our first investment into a large-scale and modern biogas project in Denmark, creating not just green energy, but also jobs and investments in the local community. It was a great achievement by Anaergia to reach first gas in November 2022, and we look forward to working with local stakeholders, farmers and suppliers – and to continue the construction of the plant that once in full operations will make a significant contribution to the green transition in the municipality of Tønder and in Denmark.”

FourKites Research Report Highlights Evolving Challenges in Ocean Shipping, with 50 Percent of Shippers Having Zero Visibility into Ocean Freight

Supply chain stakeholders cite customer service, labor shortages and transportation costs as top concerns going into 2023

FourKites Research Report Highlights Evolving Challenges in Ocean Shipping

50% of shippers gave zero visibility into ocean freight; cite customer service, labor shortages and transportation costs as top concerns going into 2023

CHICAGO, Feb. 22, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — After a tumultuous three years for global supply chains, ocean freight stakeholders are under pressure from shifting economic conditions, geopolitical influences and labor challenges going into 2023. That’s according to a new survey released today by leading real-time supply chain visibility provider FourKites.

The survey polled over 350 supply chain professionals to shed light on the top issues facing the ocean shipping industry. The survey revealed that the past few years of supply chain disruptions — including COVID-19, market volatility, global political conflict, material shortages and extreme weather eventshave driven 73% of respondents to invest in supply chain visibility, with 46% planning to invest more in 2023.

“Shippers and other players in the supply chain ecosystem are getting smarter about allocations by tapping into more reliable and real-time data, instead of guessing,” said industry expert Chris Stauber, Founder of VentureSoftPM. “They want to know, for instance, what the risk-versus-reward will be for going to an extra port or country to move their containers, or for shifting from one supplier to three for raw supplies. Additional investment is required to get better data, but the value of that data brings a huge reduction in risk.”

Other key survey findings include:

  • 50% of respondents reported having zero visibility into their ocean freight, with more than 20% relying on manual track-and-trace processes to track their ocean freight.
  • More than half of respondents were most concerned about labor challenges, high shipping costs and impacts to customer service, with 35% also reporting concerns around congestion at the ports.
  • 73% of respondents reported having some level of visibility into their over-the-road shipping.

The survey findings have been published in the report, The Great Reset: Ocean Shipping in a Post-Pandemic World. The report includes expert analysis on the current state of ocean shipping, predictions for 2023 and ways shippers can shore up their supply chains to build resilience for the future. Download a copy of the report here.

FourKites continues industry-leading ocean momentum
FourKites’ has seen continued growth in its ocean visibility business over the past year. Over the last 12 months, FourKites has tracked more than 1.3M ocean shipments — a 163% increase in ocean volume year-over-year — and has seen 70% growth in ocean customers year-over-year, with customers now including Cardinal Health, Arizona Tile, LyondellBasell, American Eagle Outfitters, McCain Foods, Roehm, Rove Concepts, Yamaha Motors and RCS Logistics.

A testament to the value of FourKites’ ocean visibility offerings, FourKites customer RCS Logistics reports that since deploying the FourKites platform — including the company’s groundbreaking Dynamic Ocean® solution — in Q3 2022 to track ocean, drayage and OTR shipments, the company has achieved 7x growth in its domestic transport services, while its ocean freight business has grown 12x.

“We are known in the industry as a leading air freight forwarder,” notes Brian Aldridge, Senior Vice President of Sales, at RCS. “With FourKites, we’ve been able to elevate our ocean freight experience and connect the dots with other modes to truly differentiate ourselves in the market. Our customers and partners appreciate FourKites’ simple, modern interface, and the transparency it creates across their supply chain.”

FourKites’ Dynamic Ocean gives customers end-to-end precision ocean freight tracking, the most accurate predictive ETAs, and can easily integrate with their existing TMS. Additional capabilities help international shippers identify and mitigate the risks and costs associated with runaway demurrage and detention (D&D) fees, and proactively manage exceptions. These include exception dashboards, notifications and alerts; analytics dashboards; and the ability to monetize the potential and actual financial impact.

Amid Global Health Worker Shortage, CGFNS Assembles Board of Experts to Advise on Next-Generation Solutions to Streamline International Mobility for Health Workers

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 22, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — With a global health worker shortage accelerating the demand for internationally educated nurses in industrialized countries, CGFNS International, a global leader in credentials evaluation to support health worker mobility, has established an advisory board of experts to help the organization support the needs of a growing cadre of migrating health professionals.

The Global Advisory Board on Pathways to Mobility for Health Workers – comprising 11 accomplished leaders in health worker credentialing, e-learning systems and digital credentialing technologies – will convene over the next four months to help establish a vision and a roadmap for the future of verifying and promoting the knowledge-based practice competencies of health workers.

Given recent trends identified in the CGFNS Nurse Migration Report 2022: Trends in Healthcare Migration to the United States, applications through the organization’s VisaScreen® Service have more than doubled over the past five years, as the growing health worker shortage has left health systems struggling to fill vacancies. Meanwhile, BMJ Global Health estimated a worldwide shortfall of 15 million health workers in 2020.

In light of this shortage, many health systems are under pressure to accelerate hiring and will turn to internationally qualified health professionals seeking to migrate. At the same time, these highly technically skilled professionals must be properly evaluated, qualified and credentialed to perform the work that is critical to patient safety and quality of care.

“Increasing global mobility among nurses and other health professionals is vitally important to ensuring that they can be hired wherever and whenever they are needed. Verifying previous training and credentials of migrating nurses is a complicated process critically important to patient safety, but amid the nursing shortage there is a growing need to make it quicker, more efficient, more secure and to harden it against fraud,” said CGFNS President and CEO Peter Preziosi.

“Fortunately, emerging technologies and practice innovations offer the promise of globally-available digital credentials or badges that are more secure and more easily verifiable across borders,” said Preziosi. “Whether it’s automating manual verification of licenses and transcripts, or developing online methods of assessing knowledge in both clinical and desktop settings, the challenge is to ensure that these solutions raise the bar for quality of care and patient safety.”

“Guided by a commitment to standards, we need to drive our industry toward further developing and adopting these types of solutions as quickly as possible, and with our new advisory board we are bringing together some of the best minds from credentialing, edtech and digital innovation to help point the way on this highly complex issue,” he added.

The Global Advisory Board on Pathways to Mobility for Health Workers will convene three times by mid-year. It will seek ways to expand and support collaborative efforts to build a new framework for testing and credential verification solutions on a global scale, thereby strengthening career development and health systems worldwide.

Members of the board are listed below. Further information about them can be found at cgfns.org/global-advisory-board:

  • Jay Cannon, Partner, Trinisys
  • Kathy Chappell, Senior VP, American Nurses Credentialing Center
  • Rina Desai, Principal/Owner, Eigen X and Trifactor
