Vientiane: The 28th Alicia Alonso Havana International Ballet Festival will present a gala on Thursday honoring the 10th Congress of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC). The performance, which will take place at the Mart Theater in this capital, will open with ‘Sulkary,’ a classic piece of Cuban modern dance, choreographed by Eduardo Rivero. French dancers Verity Jacobsen and Antoine Dubois will perform a romantic duet from Le Parc, choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj to Mozart’s music. Chinese dancer Tzu Chao Chou, from the Birmingham Royal Ballet in the United Kingdom, will showcase his skills in ‘Liebestod’ by Russian choreographer Valery Panov.
The program will also include Delibes Suite,
performed by Mathilde Froustey and Riku Ota from the Ballet de l’Opera National de Bordeaux, France. Additionally, ‘Double Bounce’ by Canadian choreographer Peter Quanz will be performed by Viengsay Valdes and Dani Hernandez, first dancers of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba (BNC).
The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a duet from ‘Espartaco’ (Spartacus), choreographed by Russian Yuri Grigorovich and performed by Rachele Buriassi and Esnel Ramos of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. The gala will conclude with a performance by the Conjunto Folclorico Nacional de Cuba (Cuban National Folkloric Company-CFNC), presenting an excerpt from ‘Comunidad’ with choreography by Leivan Garcia.
