The French Embassy hosted two former players of the French Women’s Rugby Team, Jessy Trémoulière and Coumba Diallo, to strengthen the links and human exchanges between Laos and France in the field of sport in the year of the Rugby World Cup 2023.
The French players came to Laos from Jul 21-28 at the invitation of the Lao Rugby Federation to promote rugby’s educational work for the youth, and how it can contribute to empower girls and women.
On Sunday, French Ambassador to Laos Siv-Leng Chhuor attended two rugby games of young Lao players who were coached by the French players.
In the run-up to the Rugby World Cup 2023 organised by France from Sep 8 to Oct 28, this visit shed light on women empowerment through rugby and strengthened people-to-people ties between France and Laos.
Sports diplomacy, gender equality, human exchanges and youth are priorities for the French Embassy, and are taken into account in the projects it implements in Laos in coordination with the Lao authorities.
As part of its policy of promoting exchanges between young people, the French Embassy will be supporting a Lao rugby team with a grant.
