Albay reports sharp rise in dengue cases this year

The Albay Provincial Health Office (PHO) is encouraging the public to practice the “4S” strategy against dengue as it reported a significant increase in the number of cases compared to the same period last year.

Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) chief Jan Edmund Dominic Bailon told the Philippine News Agency that there have been 2,116 dengue cases from January to date, compared to only 469 cases in 2023.

Bailon underscored the importance of reporting cases to detect the increasing number of patients.

“The reporting helps us to closely monitor the cases. We also strengthen the reporting in private hospitals,” he said.

Bailon also reminded the public of the 4S –Search and destroy mosquito breeding grounds by eliminating stagnant water and their containers; Self-protection measures like insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants; Seek early consultation with a doctor or health worker for any symptoms; and Support fogging or spraying in local hotspots or outbreak areas
where an increase in cases is registered.
