BFAR offers 26 college scholarship grants

BAGUIO CITY: The Bureau of Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is offering 26 scholarships for four-year courses in agriculture.

Irene Tanyag, Regional Fisheries Scholarship Program Coordinator of BFAR-CAR, said 20 slots are under the “Fisheries Scholarship Program” for children of fisherfolks, three slots are under the Fisheries Industry Leader Grant, and three for high school academic awardees under the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples Grant.

“Those who will qualify and will be approved will be covered for the duration of the four-year college degree,” she said.

Tanyag said the scholarships aim to support the country’s agricultural sector especially with farmer’s average age getting old at 53.

She said they have started accepting applications for the school year 2025-26 and the deadline is on August 1, 2024.

“The applicants will take the Nationwide Qualifying Examination on Oct. 19,” she said.

To date, BFAR has extended 82 scholarships.
