Botene Working to Escape Poverty over Next Three Years

(Botene district, Luang Namtha Province is making great efforts to rise above the poverty line by 2020.

Mr Vandao Veothanatsy, Vice Chief of Botene district, recently revealed that the district plan stresses poverty reduction in 28 villages with a population of over 18,000. The majority of vocations in the district rely on agriculture.

Botene district will follow the government’s strategy and vision for the district by focusing on applying up-to-date models, and a scientific and technological approach to the development of agriculture and animal husbandry and the promotion of tourism.

The ambitious plan of Botene district is set to be accomplished by 2020, while the economic structure of the district will be upgraded to modern industrialization.

Agricultural workers in the area represent 51 percent of population, industry accounts for 8.8 percent, and services make up 39 percent.

Botene is an agriculture producing district that could yield 9,550 tonnes of paddy rice per year. The main cash crops are maize, cassava and other legumes.
