MANILA: The advocacy arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will provide solar panels in far-flung communities as part of its commitment to environmental protection.
Caritas Philippines has committed to pursuing an environment-friendly way to supply electricity in these places in support of the “10 Million Solar Rooftops Challenge’ launched on Tuesday.
“The CBCP and Caritas Philippines will install solar panels in off-grid communities, ensuring that even the most remote areas benefit from renewable energy,” the group said in a statement.
It noted that the 10 Million Solar Rooftops Challenge is a feasible and impactful goal while recognizing the country’s abundant solar potential and the supportive policy landscape,
‘The initiative aims to significantly contribute to the nation’s renewable energy targets, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and empower communities to become more climate resilient by fostering widespread adoption of solar rooftops,” it added.

tops Challenge aims to install solar panels in households nationwide, significantly reducing carbon emissions and fostering a greener and more sustainable future.
The Church-based organization is also looking to install solar panels in churches to set an example and encourage others to do the same.
“We urge all dioceses to lead the way in embracing renewable energy,” it added.
Caritas Philippines also hoped the initiative would encourage the government to adopt more environmentally-friendly policies.
“We will be engaging more of the Philippine government to enact and enforce a supportive energy policy landscape,” it said.
