Catanduanes pursues food-related projects with DSWD assistance

LEGAZPI: At least 12 Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) – organized associations in Catanduanes will pursue food-related livelihood projects as part of their approved proposal funded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Bicol.

In an interview on Tuesday, Ram Joseph Zaragoza, DSWD-Bicol SLP spokesperson, said the associations with 153 members will implement the projects within June in line with the government’s zero hunger program.

The livelihood grants will be for poultry raising, vegetable farming, rice retailing, fishing, and cassava chip production. “With these projects, the community will have opportunities in food security, more resources will be available, prioritizing the needs of the families and communities within the areas,” he said.

Zaragoza said the SLP associations will stay with the program for five years.

“The SLP’s five-year Livelihood Sustainability Plan is an approach that prioritizes the improvement of implementation processes and capacity-building activities
to ensure the success of its initiatives,” he said.
