DAVAO CITY: With the onset of the rainy season, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is speeding up the installation of more sirens and river and coastal cameras to warn residents of floods or high sea water levels.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Alfredo Baloran, the head of the CDRRMO, said the new equipment will be used more to monitor river channels, especially since the city is experiencing localized thunderstorms.
Baloran said the additional sirens will alert residents about potential flooding in the city.
“We also added cameras in the upper part of our river channels and at the coastal areas,’ he said.
Baloran said a strategic camera is placed upstream of Lipadas River, which will help with early information dissemination and advice for possible evacuation of those living downstream.
He said they are working closely with the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils for any eventualities.
“We always extend our warning to the people on the ground, our bar
angay volunteers, and responders who are also always ready in weather disturbances,’ he added.
Baloran urged the public to tune in to the radio and read advisories provided by their office on various channels to avoid danger during calamities.
