Department of Livestock speeds up realizing an export-oriented cow farming project

The Department of Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry held a virtual meeting with relevant authorities and farmers nationwide to discuss documents related to an export-oriented cow farming project.

Chaired by Director General of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries Vilayphone Volaphim, the meeting was attended by directors of provincial Agriculture and Forestry departments and cow farmers.

The project aims to contribute to increasing national revenues through promoting the farming of cows for export to China, according to Ms Vilayphone Volaphim.

“The cow commercial farming project will be implemented in 18 provinces across the country over a period of eight years (2021-2028). The project needs an investment of 1.76 trillion kip including fixed capital of 90.1 billion kip and working capital of 1.67 trillion kip.

The project plans to establish 100 farms of 500 cows with total annual production of 50,000 healthy cows worth 251 billion kip in the third year of the project.
