DILG Orders Early Evacuation in Super Typhoon-Affected Areas

Manila: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Sunday ordered all local government units (LGUs) in the projected path of Super Typhoon Nando to immediately carry out preemptive evacuations to safeguard residents. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that LGUs must waste no time in moving families away from storm surges, flooding, and landslide-prone zones.

According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla emphasized that lives are at stake and that preemptive evacuation is not just an option but an obligation of the government and a responsibility of communities. He urged citizen cooperation and reminded families in vulnerable areas to follow evacuation orders without delay.

On Saturday, the agency issued an advisory directing LGUs to enforce anticipatory measures such as liquor bans, a no-sail policy, clearing of waterways, and preparation of evacuation centers. With the threat now greater, these directives must be implemented swiftly, Remulla added.

LGUs were instructed to ensure evacuation centers are powered, stocked with supplies, and safe for evacuees; to secure critical infrastructure; and to provide food and humanitarian aid.
