‘Goyo150’ Musical Play Celebrates the Legacy of Gregorio del Pilar

Malolos city: Kabesera Inc., a heritage, culture, and history group, launched a musical play on Monday in honor of the life and heroism of Gen. Gregorio ‘Goyo’ del Pilar. The launch was a significant part of the culmination of the weeklong Sining Kalinangan ng Bulacan (Singkaban) Festival, coinciding with the hero’s 150th birth anniversary on November 14.

According to Philippines News Agency, the musical, titled ‘Goyo@150: Para sa Bayan, Dulang Musikal ng Kabayanihan’ (For the Country, A Musical Play of Heroism), will have its gala premiere at 7 p.m. at Hiyas Pavilion in Malolos City on November 8. Additional performances are scheduled for November 24 and 25 at Assumpta Academy in the city. The 70-minute play is a remake of the ‘Goyo100’ stage play, highlighting the bravery of Del Pilar and his group.

Vicente Enriquez, the production director and a recipient of the Dangal ng Lipi ng Bulacan award, serves as the overall director of the musical, while Noli Garcia penned the original script. Enriquez noted that he made some modifications to the script, in collaboration with Garcia, to make it more relevant to contemporary audiences.

The presentation aims to emphasize the importance of the country’s heritage, culture, and history, particularly through the life and heroism of Del Pilar. The goal is to inspire and sustain patriotism among the youth. Kabesera president Gemma Santos expressed the desire for Del Pilar’s heroism to remain alive as a lasting legacy for future generations. Through these presentations, the group hopes to encourage the youth to emulate Del Pilar’s patriotism.

Proceeds from the play will be directed toward printing ‘Bulacan ‘Yan,’ a book compiling rich stories, photographs, and memories of Bulakan town.
