Manila: Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Monday expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s drive for accountability, stressing that the chamber is hiding nothing and protecting no one as Congress confronts allegations of irregularities in infrastructure projects. ‘I fully support President Marcos’ statement that no one is exempt from accountability. The House of Representatives has already embraced this principle in our work to uphold transparency and restore public trust,’ Romualdez said in a statement.
According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez also shares the President’s reminder against name-dropping and reckless accusations, emphasizing that investigations must be anchored on facts and evidence, not on rumor, innuendo, or hearsay. ‘Only by focusing on the truth can we ensure both accountability and fairness,’ he stated.
He vowed that the House would not be a refuge for wrongdoing, asserting that not even its own members would be shielded if wrongdoing was proven. ‘We will ensure that the process is fair, fact-based, and guided by the rule of law. Walang itinatago, walang poprotektahan, at higit sa lahat — hindi lilihis sa interes ng taumbayan (We will not hide anything, will not protect anyone, and more importantly – we will not deviate from the interest of the people),’ Romualdez declared.
Romualdez highlighted the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure as an opportunity to cleanse the system, pledging the full cooperation of the House. ‘This issue is bigger than personalities. It is about safeguarding the people’s money and ensuring that every bridge, road, and flood control project truly serves the Filipino people,’ he concluded.
