Jakarta: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his country’s ambition to join BRICS, the alliance of major emerging economies formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. This declaration was made during a speech at an Indonesia-Brazil business forum held in Brazil on November 17, where the President outlined Indonesia’s strategic intent to strengthen its national economy through BRICS membership.
According to Lao News Agency, the business forum was a platform for businesses from Indonesia and Brazil to explore opportunities for strategic economic cooperation, focusing on sectors such as energy, industry, and maritime. President Prabowo underscored the commonalities between Indonesia and Brazil, particularly their rich natural resources and shared strategic outlook for the future. He affirmed Indonesia’s support for Brazil’s pivotal role in BRICS, highlighting the group’s growing influence on the international stage.
President Prabowo also pointed out the substantial potential for
collaboration with Brazil in the energy sector, specifically in the development of biofuels and renewable energy. He revealed Indonesia’s plan to increase the use of biodiesel to 50% by 2025, utilizing palm oil as the primary raw material, signaling a significant emphasis on sustainable energy initiatives.
