Indonesia’s Carbon Market Records $4.82 Million in Transactions Since Launch

Jakarta: Indonesia’s carbon market has recorded transactions totaling 78.37 billion rupiah, equivalent to approximately 4.82 million U.S. dollars, from its official launch on September 26, 2023, to August 22, 2025, as announced by the Indonesia Carbon Exchange on Monday.

According to Lao News Agency, Ignatius Denny Wicaksono, head of the business development division 2 at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, stated that while the majority of transactions have been conducted by listed companies and their subsidiaries, there is a noticeable increase in service users. This growth includes many carbon market players beginning to engage in retail carbon trading.

Wicaksono highlighted that the increasing participation of retail investors signifies a rising public awareness of sustainability and the importance of reducing carbon footprints. Over the period in question, the trading volume reached 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent across 281 transactions.

In an effort to bolster the ecosystem, Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority has introduced a carbon trading guidebook specifically for the financial services sector. This initiative aims to broaden participation and support Indonesia’s agenda for low-carbon development.
