Vientiane: The Lao Wildlife Conservation Center, formerly stationed in Keun Village, Thoulakhom District, Vientiane Province, is set to open its new facility to the public on 19 January 2026. This development marks a significant step for wildlife conservation advocates and the public, as the center transitions from its previous identity as the Keun Village Zoo to a modern conservation hub.
According to Lao News Agency, the center’s newly constructed site will welcome visitors without the need for advance reservations. The center’s primary function is not as a traditional zoo, but as a rescue and rehabilitation facility for wildlife rescued from illegal trade. Animals in the facility receive professional care, medical treatment, and rehabilitation to prepare them for eventual release back into their natural habitats. The center’s operations are guided by the mission of returning wildlife to their natural environments.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe real-world conservation efforts. In addition to seeing rescued animals, guests will learn about wildlife care, treatment, nutritional needs, and suitable environments for different species, offering a genuine glimpse into hands-on conservation work.
The new facility is strategically positioned near the Nam Pien Yorla Pa tourist area in Vientiane Capital, enhancing accessibility for both local and international visitors. Directions and a location map can be found in the comments section of the center’s online platforms.
