Laos has confirmed 929 new Covid-19 cases and seven fatalities over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total to 72,447 including 11,378 active cases and 166 deaths, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control reported today.

The newly reported deaths included six documented in Vientiane and one in Vientiane (province).

Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh told a press conference today that the newly recorded infections, all classified as domestic infections, were detected among 11,171 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday. The day also witnessed some 761 patients discharged from hospital.

Of the new domestic infections, 279 were reported in Vientiane, 114 in Vientiane (province), 70 in Luang Prabang, 60 in Bokeo, 59 in Xayaboury, 53 in Savannakhet, 51 in Champassak and 39 in Oudomxay.

Meanwhile, 38 were recorded in Phongsaly, 31 in Xieng Khuang, 28 in Attapeu, 27 in Huaphan, 17 each in Khammuan and Saravan, 16 in Borikhamxay, 15 in Luang Namtha, ten in Xaysomboun and four in Xekong.
