Metro Manila Cops Nab 58,000 Suspects in Weeklong Operations

Manila: The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported the arrest of 58,693 individuals in a comprehensive seven-day anti-crime operation across Metro Manila. The crackdown, which occurred from September 8 to 14, was executed by police districts in Manila, Quezon City, and Northern, Southern, and Eastern areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin outlined the operation’s achievements, noting the apprehension of 317 wanted persons, among which 119 were identified as Most Wanted and 198 as Other Wanted. The NCRPO also conducted 205 anti-illegal drugs operations, leading to the arrest of 299 suspects and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances, including over 1,054 grams of shabu, 1,048 grams of dried marijuana leaves, and 209 grams of kush. The confiscated narcotics have an estimated street value surpassing PHP7.6 million.

The operations also resulted in the arrest of a High Value Individual (HVI), 53 Street Level Individuals (SLIs), 243 newly identified HVIs, and two newly identified SLIs. Additionally, 140 anti-gambling operations led to 295 arrests and the seizure of more than PHP75,000 worth of illegal gambling paraphernalia and cash bets.

Efforts to combat the proliferation of loose firearms saw 39 operations resulting in the arrest of 41 violators and the confiscation of 41 unlicensed firearms. The NCRPO also maintained stringent enforcement of local ordinances, recording 57,821 violations. The predominant offenses included drinking and smoking in public places (19,999 cases), roaming the streets without shirts (5,923 cases), urinating in public areas (6,284 cases), and minors violating curfew hours (5,146 cases).

The operations further addressed issues such as vandalism, illegal structures, improper wearing of face masks, and traffic code violations, generating PHP17.4 million in fines and penalties. Maj. Gen. Aberin emphasized that these efforts demonstrate the NCRPO’s commitment to enhancing peace and order in Metro Manila.
