Vientiane: The Ministry of Energy and Mines has merged with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, following decisions made at a key meeting held on June 16, 2025. The meeting took place at Electricite du Laos, chaired by Mr. Phoxay Sayasone, Minister of Energy and Mines and member of the Party Central Committee.
According to Lao News Agency, the meeting reviewed regulations from the Central Organizational Mechanism Improvement Committee. Ms. Sengdeuane Vongin, Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel, reported on the new structure, personnel transfers, and upcoming retirements.
Ten central-level officials are set to retire. This includes four department directors: Mr. Sukhansak Sisouk from the Department of Geology and Minerals, Mr. Bouathep Malaikham of Energy Industry Safety Management, Mr. Somphit Keovichit from the Energy Business Department, and Mr. Chantho Milattanapheng of Energy Promotion and Conservation.
Additionally, six deputy directors will also retire. These include Ms. Leuang Phomsouvanh from the Inspection Department, Mr. Vongkham Chaleunsouk of the Department of Mines Management, Mr. Houmphan Vongphachanh and Mr. Thammanon Nakhavit from the Department of Energy Management, Mr. Vongthong Thimahaxay of the Department of Mines Management, and Mr. Phoukhong Sengvilay from the Department of Energy Industry Safety Management.
The restructuring aims to improve efficiency and align national economic priorities under a unified ministry. The government will continue to implement further organizational reforms across sectors.
