Vientiane: The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism convened a significant meeting to review achievements and reveal major organizational reforms. The meeting, chaired by Minister Ms. Suansavanh Viyaket, included senior officials, department heads, and information sector civil servants.
According to Lao News Agency, Deputy Minister Mr. Vansy Kuamua presented a comprehensive report outlining the Ministry’s recent accomplishments. He highlighted advancements in media infrastructure, digital system enhancements, and personnel training as key areas of progress.
A notable achievement is the expansion of the national information network through modern internet systems, facilitating improved communication, fostering public trust, and uniting Lao people globally across ethnic groups.
In the cultural sector, the Ministry has successfully preserved and restored several heritage sites, some of which have gained UNESCO recognition, contributing to national pride and socio-economic advancement.
In tourism, the “Visit Laos Year 2024” campaign proved successful, with upgrades to tourist destinations and enhanced services making tourism a vital component of the national economy.
A major announcement made during the meeting was the transfer of five media departments to the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Training Board. The departments include the Media Department, Lao News Agency, Lao National Television, Lao National Radio, and Foreign Language Newspaper. This transfer, approved by the Party Secretariat, aims to bolster leadership and coordination within national media operations.
The Ministry also conducted a retirement ceremony honoring distinguished public servants who concluded their service. The retirees included Mr. Phosy Keomanivong, Deputy Minister; Ms. Maniphan Luangsisong, Deputy Director-General of Planning and International Cooperation; Mr. Vorasak Pravongviengkham, Deputy Director-General of National Radio; and Mr. Phoupasong Phutthavong, Deputy Director-General of Lao National Television.
In her closing remarks, Minister Suansavanh commended the retirees’ contributions and urged the transitioning media organizations to remain committed to their mission. She underscored unity, responsibility, and political dedication as essential for future success.
