Pangasinan: Two provincial and local chief executives of Pangasinan expressed their gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for reinstating the requirement of local government unit (LGU) clearance as a safeguard for infrastructure projects. Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino and Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario welcomed the policy, emphasizing the importance of LGUs in overseeing and monitoring projects within their areas.
According to Philippines News Agency, Vice Governor Lambino stated that LGUs possess better knowledge about the local situation and the needs of the people. He expressed appreciation for the President’s recognition of the role of LGUs in supervising projects conducted by national, local, or private entities. This policy, Lambino noted, is a significant development for local administrations.
Mayor Rosario, who also serves as the provincial president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the benefits of involving LGUs in the implementation of projects. He mentioned that such involvement would provide a clearer understanding of project programs and outcomes. Rosario emphasized that the inclusion of capable LGU engineers in the supervision and monitoring process would ensure a healthy check and balance on infrastructure projects.
President Marcos announced on Monday that LGU clearance will be reinstated as a requirement for national infrastructure projects before they are deemed complete. He underscored that local officials are best positioned to verify the adherence of infrastructure projects to established standards.
