PBBM to attend inauguration of Indonesian president, VP in Jakarta

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will attend the inauguration of Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Jakarta, on Oct. 20, Malacañang announced on Saturday.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited Marcos to attend the inauguration of his successor, the Palace said in a statement.

Marcos will be accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

‘The attendance of President Marcos and the First Lady at the inauguration of the Indonesian President and Vice President reaffirms the deep and enduring friendship between the two nations, founded on close people-to-people ties,’ Malacañang said.

‘The President’s attendance in the inauguration also signifies the Philippines’ sincere commitment to further expand and deepen bilateral relations,’ it added.

In a meeting at Malacañan Palace in Manila in September, Marcos and Prabowo affirmed their commitment to strengthen the Philippines and Indonesia’s ties.

The Philippines and Indonesia are celebrating
the 75th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations this year.

The Palace said the Philippines considers Indonesia one of its ‘long-standing partners’ in the Southeast Asia, considering that both countries are founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Marcos’ first overseas trip as president was to Indonesia for a state visit on Sept. 4 to 6, 2022.

His visit was reciprocated by Widodo, who undertook his official visit to the Philippines in January 2024.

‘This exchange of high-level visits is a testament to the strong bilateral relations between our two democratic and maritime countries,’ Malacañang said.
