PhilSys registers 6.6M in W. Visayas, campaign on to enlist toddlers

ILOILO: The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in Region 6 (Western Visayas) has enlisted 6,632,789 people, and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is urging parents and guardians to already register their children below five years old.

‘That is 83 percent of our total population based on the 2020 CPH (Census of Population and Housing). Which is why our next target to achieve 100 percent of the target and total population, we focus on the registration of our children below five years old,’ Jared Barile, focal person for PhilSys in Western Visayas, said in a media briefing on Tuesday.

PSA data showed that of the 767,866 projected population of children zero to four years old, only 29,956 have registered as of May 14. They consisted of 10,338 from Aklan; 6,295 from Antique;

3,886, Capiz; 1,585, Guimaras;5,303, Iloilo; and 2,549 from Negros Occidental.

The PSA has fixed registration sites in each of the provinces and highly urbanized cities in addition to mobile registrations to reach out to ta
rget registrants.

Parents need to prepare their child’s certificate of live birth or certificate of a foundling, or any document showing the full name of the child, date and place of birth, the full name of the mother, and the full name of the father if acknowledged.

‘Take note that they have to be accompanied by a parent or a guardian when they register. The accompanying parent must have an issued PhilID (Philippine identification card), while the guardian has to bring an authorization letter issued by the parent in addition to the PhilID,’ Barile said.

He said toddlers with PhilSys ID are one step ahead because they already have a valid identification document.

Meanwhile, of the total registered, over 4.31 million have been issued their physical or plastic cards, while more than 2.56 million have been given an electronic copy.

PSA officer-in-charge Regional Director Nelida Amolar said they are trying to exhaust efforts to reach more registrants as the national target is to register 99.9 percent of Fili
pinos next year.

‘We are obliged to register 92 million Filipinos by June 30. This is also our commitment to the President before the delivery of his second SONA (State of the Nation Address),’ she said.
