Rains to continue over parts of PH due to shear line, ‘amihan’Tan Son Nhat airport serves record number of passengers during Tet holiday

MANILA: Several areas of the country will continue to experience rain showers due to the three weather systems affecting the Philippines, the weather bureau said Wednesday.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and the southern portion of Quezon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line and the easterlies.

Moderate to heavy rains in those areas could result in flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with light rains will be felt over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and the rest of Quezon due to the northeast monsoon or ‘amihan.’

The same weather system will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

The rest of the country will experienc
e partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

Flash floods or landslides may occur in vulnerable areas during severe thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters will prevail over the eastern sections of the country, while the rest of the archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.

The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 23°C to 32°C; Baguio City, 13°C to 23°C; Laoag City, 20°C to 31°C; Legazpi City, 24°C to 28°C; Metro Cebu, 24°C to 30°C; Puerto Princesa City, 25°C to 32°C; and Metro Davao, 24°C to 32°C.

HCM City: The Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City welcomed nearly 148,000 passengers on February 14, the highest level since the beginning of the Tet peak season 2024.

According to the airport’s operation centre, it served 934 flights on the day, including 836 passenger ones.

This is the second consecutive day that the airport has welcomed a large number of passengers passing through. On February 13, it served 843 flights with 136,500 passengers.

To prepare for this peak season, the airport coordinated closely with airlines to update flight schedules and prepare resources and equipment to serve passengers.

From February 6, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) started piloting cashless parking payments at the airport to save the time through the station.

Previously, the airport also officially applied apply the A-CDM coordinated decision-making model on February 1 which helps improve operational efficiency such as increasing the rate of on-time flight and minimising cases where air
craft stop and wait for a long time on taxiways./.
