Manila: Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac paid tribute to overseas Filipino workers, including seafarers, as they represent the Philippines’ archipelagic identity and maritime strength.
According to Philippines News Agency, in his message for the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) observed this September, Cacdac highlighted the contribution of Filipino modern-day heroes who carry the ‘strength of our nation and the hope of your communities.’ He emphasized that the Philippines’ vast seas and archipelagic identity have long defined the nation, continuing to live on through seafarers and migrant workers.
Cacdac acknowledged the sacrifices made by Filipino workers at sea and abroad, highlighting the long journeys, extended time away from families, and demanding working conditions they endure. He expressed that their sacrifices are honored with a promise to ensure they receive dignity, protection, and opportunity.
The theme for MANA Mo 2025, ‘Nagkakaisang Kapuluan, Panatag na Karagatan’ (United Archipelago, Secure Ocean), underscores the shared responsibility of Filipinos to safeguard the country’s maritime heritage and resources. Cacdac reminded Filipinos of their shared duty to care for the seas, honor their heritage, and unite as a maritime nation.
Cacdac also assured that the Department of Migrant Workers will continue providing necessary protection and support to overseas Filipino workers and their families. He called on them to remain steadfast in their efforts to build a united archipelago and secure ocean for a stronger maritime Philippines.
