TD Gener to make landfall in Isabela, Aurora

Manila: Tropical Depression (TD) Gener is expected to make landfall within the next 24 hours in the provinces of Isabela and Aurora, while Tropical Storm Pulasan may also enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) late Tuesday.

In its 11 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Gener had slightly intensified, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers (km) per hour (kph) near the center and wind gusts of up to 70 kph.

Its center was estimated at 325 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora and moving slowly west southwest.

In a press conference at the PAGASA headquarters in Quezon City on Monday, Administrator Nathaniel Servando said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over Central and Northern Luzon and warned against the intensification of the southwest monsoon (habagat).

‘Inaasahan natin na today na may areas na makakaranas ng heavy to intense rainfall, lalong lalo na sa mga lalawigan ng Mimaropa, pa
rticular sa Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, some areas in Western Visayas, particularly Aklan, Antique, and Negros Occidental (We expect heavy to intense rainfall today, especially in Mimaropa, particularly Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, some areas in Wester Visayas, particularly Aklan, Antique, and Negros Occidental),’ Servando said.

He warned of moderate to heavy rainfall in the remaining areas of Mimaropa and Western Visayas, as well as Negros Island, Quezon, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.

As Gener approaches, it will bring heavy rains over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Aurora within the day.

‘Moderate to heavy naman sa mga nalalabing bahagi ng Cagayan Valley, nalalabing bahagi ng Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, and Nueva Ecija and Bulacan (There will be moderate to heavy rains in the remaining areas of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, Nueva Ecija and Bulacan),’ he said.

Meanwhile, the center of Pulasan was last estimated near Guam at 2,215 km east of so
utheastern Luzon.

It is forecast to move north northeast over the next 12 hours before turning northwest from Monday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon.

It is expected to enter PAR by Tuesday evening and may exit around Wednesday morning.

It is seen to remain a tropical storm throughout the forecast period but further intensification was not ruled out as it is still over the Pacific Ocean.

He advised the public to be alert and to keep themselves updated on the two tropical cyclones approaching the country.

‘Sana sundin lahat ng mga tamang hakbang na ipinapa-iral ng mga lokal na pamahalaan upang ma-iwasan natin ang hazard na dala nitong weather systems na magiging kalamidad (We hope that everyone will follow the correct steps given by the local government so we can avoid hazards brought by these weather systems turning into calamities),’ he said.
