Vietnam Congratulates Laos on Appointment of New Foreign Minister.

Vientiane: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son has sent a congratulatory message to Thongsavanh Phomvihane on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR. The announcement of Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane’s appointment took place during the ongoing 8th Ordinary Session of the 9th National Assembly of Laos.

According to Lao News Agency, the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the trust and high regard the Lao Party and government place in Mr. Thongsavanh. He cited Mr. Thongsavanh’s significant contributions in his previous role as head of the Commission for External Relations of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee.

In his congratulatory message, Bui Thanh Son expressed confidence in Mr. Thongsavanh’s ability to lead the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs towards new achievements. He emphasized Mr. Thongsavanh’s knowledge, capability, and extensive experience in foreign affairs as key factors that would help fulfill the respons
ibilities entrusted by the Lao Party and government. The Vietnamese leader also noted that under Mr. Thongsavanh’s leadership, Laos could continue advancing its foreign policy focused on peace, independence, friendship, and cooperation.

Furthermore, Bui Thanh Son stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the foreign ministries of Vietnam and Laos. He highlighted the deep-rooted friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations’ parties, governments, and peoples. The letter concluded with warm congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, along with an expression of anticipation for their meeting at the upcoming 9th Laos-Vietnam foreign ministerial political consultation scheduled for December 2024 in Laos.
