VNA’s Role in Strengthening Vietnam-Laos Media Cooperation

Vientiane: Over the past 80 years, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has established itself as a key national press agency, providing news for domestic and international media while serving as a bridge to strengthen the friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, a leader of Laos has stated.

According to Lao News Agency, Bounthong Chitmany, Politburo member, Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, and Vice President of Laos, emphasized the crucial role played by the VNA bureau in Laos in facilitating the exchange of information between the two countries. He highlighted that this relationship is an invaluable asset and a foundation for the development of both nations.

The Vice President underscored the importance of information in society, noting its influence on national reform and economic development. Over the years, the VNA bureau in Laos has remained committed to providing timely, accurate, and comprehensive news in various formats. Its coverage spans political, economic, and social affairs in Laos, and it also focuses on the Vietnam-Laos relationship. VNA correspondents have prioritized cooperation with Lao media outlets by sharing experiences to improve media quality.

Bounthong noted that the VNA bureau, along with other Vietnamese media agencies in Laos, plays a key role in disseminating the policies and laws of both countries to the international community. This effort helps attract foreign investment and reinforces the ties between the two countries.

Samnieng Sengkhiyavong, an editor at the Lao National Radio, shared that she frequently accesses Vietnamese news platforms, particularly VNA’s website. She praised VNA’s network of resident bureaus, which allows it to provide fast and timely information. VNA is often the quickest among Vietnamese news sources.

She also commended VNA’s role in strengthening Vietnam-Laos relations by reporting on the countries’ policies and facilitating the bilateral exchange of information. VNA’s comprehensive coverage, particularly concerning Laos, contributes to the advancement of the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

Meanwhile, Vilavanh Lotsouvanh, a reporter from the Lao News Agency (KPL), shared his experience of working with VNA for over a decade. He expressed appreciation for VNA correspondents’ assistance, especially in sharing information about major events, such as high-level visits and national celebrations.

Vice President Bounthong expressed his belief that in the coming years, the VNA bureau in Laos will continue to build on its expertise and maintain close cooperation with the Lao media sector to further develop Laos’ media landscape and deepen the Vietnam-Laos relationship.
