Water rationing to serve around 72K households in Iloilo City

ILOILO: Around 72,000 households from the 180 barangays of this city stand to benefit from the ‘Oplan Bulig Tubig Sa Syudad’ that will commence with rationing of city-procured water on Wednesday.

‘We have a tabletop with the Metro Pacific Iloilo Water and the South Balibago Waterworks, and we were able to establish the water flow for the full implementation of the water rationing starting tomorrow,’ General Services Office (GSO) head, engineer Neil Ravena, said on Tuesday.

The water rationing is on top of the ongoing water distribution donated by the private sector in partnership with volunteer groups.

Metro Pacific Iloilo Water will deliver water to barangays in Arevalo and Molo districts, while the South Balibago covers the districts of Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, Mandurriao, and City Proper.

The delivery will start around 9 a.m. until around 6 p.m.

Ravena said the target to be delivered is 500,000 liters per day, but based on their theoretical computation based on individuals affected, they are supposed to d
eliver 696.9 cubic meters daily.

On Monday, he called on barangays to provide static tanks commensurate to their number of affected households.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) officer Donna Magno said their office has been conducting briefings in barangays to prepare them for the rationing.

‘The water that will be provided in every barangay is dependent on their tanks. As mentioned by the mayor, we encouraged barangays to procure (tanks). We’ve been emphasizing to them that this is not just a one-shot delivery. It’s going to be every day in the next three months,’ Magno said.
