A group of lorries carrying wind turbine blades of the 600-mw Monsoon Wind Power Project has arrived in Xekong Province.
A welcome ceremony for the arrival of the wind turbine blades was held on Aug 13 in the presence of Xekong Governor Leklai Sivilay, leaders of Dakchung and Lamam districts, and representatives of relevant provincial authorities, developers and contractors.
Addressing the welcome ceremony, Governor Leklai appreciated relevant authorities, investors, contractors, logistics committee, and relevant parties for their facilitation of the transport of the wind blades, noting that such transport was the first ever in the Lao PDR.
The successful transport of the wind turbine blades has demonstrated the sincere attention paid by the project’s owner and developers to ensuring that the wind power project will be successfully implemented as planned, said the governor.
The wind power project is located between Dakchung district of Xekong Province and Xanxay district of Attapeu Province. It is the first wind power project in the Lao PDR and the largest wind power project in the Southeast Asia.
It involves the installation of 133 wind turbine towers including 110 towers in Dakchung, and 23 towers in Xanxay district.
With its construction launched in April 2023, the 600-mw power project is expected to be fully completed by 2025. The majority of electricity generated by the 25-year concessional project will be exported to Vietnam.
